Using your entire Company!

There is no doubt in my mind that people continue to feed off of each other. With that said, how important is it that everyone speak their mind.

Well let’s put it in perspective.

If I work at a company for more than a year and i have a better grasp on the business then most people within the company, there a good chance that my ideas will not only be good ideas, but I probably have a great bearing on how the company works and why my idea would work well with the company ways.

I really think companies need to take the time to listen to not only there audience but the people within the company. I am not saying this is going to work in every single case, but even if it works once, this could land you millions right? I am curious to see what people have to say on this subject.

So i pose the question, should companies ask the advice of people around the entire company to see what ideas could advance their company even further than they already are? Let’s start a conversation.

How to add Social Networking money to marketing plans for 2009

This may be an on going conversation or it may just die off right away. Either way i think it is something that needs to be talked about. Many people are asking the question… How do you convince a boss to add social network into the 2009 budget!

Ok, So first. What do i need to do to prove to my boss?

Well, while not being easy, you need a great idea.  With this idea you need a plan.

So how can i appeal this idea to my audience?

While some people would say this questions is impossible or nearly impossible to grab the audience, I say no way.

There are two things that will always grab peoples curiosity.

One, a popular person in the viral media… and Two, Funny or sexual connotation videos or posts.

And sometimes, just a great marketing plan with do the duty…

Moving on. I think most of us already knew these things.

So how do i explain to my boss, who doesn’t even know what Social Research is all about, that this should be in the budget in the near future?

Again, you need to prove to him that we can advance hits on the web or overall sales on a brand new product. So take a product you are about to release and do Social planning on this one product on your own time. Prove that you can improve hits on site and your conversion rates on this single product will increase as well!

I would love to see what people have to say about this so far. I think I will continue my thought process after some ideas come through…

P.S. I would like to thank @chelpixie for this idea today. I love feeding off of others.

I am currently in Boston, and yesterday i was walking around and i heard this: “I still can’t get over the new facebook. I hate it so much!” It got me to thinking… Why on earth was the transformation of facebook so hard for people to overcome?

I understand it was hard to navigate at first, but really after that it wasn’t so bad. So i am curious, are people still upset that they made the change or are people feeling comfortable now?

Digital can be confusing

People of the digital world, How do you get people that are not of the digital world to come over to this side.

I pose this question, becuase i see so many business that dont have websites, that dont think websites are important or that the website won’t generate revenue. Are these people crazy?  I would think so. There are some companies that only have online sites and i think it is brillant if the product so fits. Obviously you dont want to buy a mattress set online only cause people want to lay on the bed before purchasing. But that is not to say it can’t happen. 1800 mattress.com does it and they are in the top 500 companies every year for best online generated revenue. That is impressive.

So to start the conversation today… i just want to know…

Can you survive without a website in 2008?

Monday Night Football Extravaganza!!!

I really hoped that the whole world had a chance to see one of the two football games last night. But unfortunately that is not the reason why I am writing today. The main reason I am writing is because of the PSA (public service announcement) that kept playing through out the commercial breaks.  You might have seen it… it goes a little something like this… You might have taught him to throw a baseball, you might have taught him to catch a game winning touchdown, but did you teach him WHAT NOT TO HIT A WOMEN??!

WOOOOAAHHH!! wait a minute??? Did I ever what?  haha

Man that was a crazy commerical. What a perfect time to hit the audience of big beefffy men who are watching a football game with a beer in their hand while yelling at his wife…. UMMM i don’t think so.

While I understand why the PSA needs to be out there, i found it a bit insulting because it was talking to me… a man who likes to watch football. And trust me… i do understand the situation, and i know it is a serious problem but my issue: I better see that same commercial during a tennis match, baseball game, or a LAX game. I think directly pointing at people who watch or play football was totally the wrong direction.
Sure the game of football is full of aggression, but I still think it is the wrong idea to play the PSA at that time and ONLY that time.

Non-Profit Organizations

This weekend I went and helped out around my community. I did a service project in Denver called, Sports Made Possible (sportsmadepossible.org). They have built a wheel chair accessible baseball field.  I spent my time there doing a documentary for them. What they are all about. Who they want to come help. Why it is so important to have things like this available. While i was doing this I sat back and started reflecting.

Why don’t these groups know about things like Social Conversations? Why don’t they have a million connections? What would it take for them to be able to join a group such as twitter and understand the responsiblities. And most importantly, Is it worth their time?

Community, I am just curious. Should this be something Social Media Mavens should be doing to get started?

Let’s start the conversation!

Barack Obama Followed the OPEN brand philosophy but will it work?

The more and more I look at the strategy that Obama is using to brand himself, the more I notice how brilliant it actually is. He has pursed the young community, the people of web 2.0, Facebook, etc… But lets take a closer look.

Obama started with the simple slogan, and the people responded with Yes we can.Sure he made his few punches at Hillary Clinton, or even Senator McCain. But what did he really do to make this campaign successful?

notice the bottom line... Powered by... Supporters like you

Powered by Supporters like you... Brilliant!

Obama has taken the OPEN MARKET philosphy, and made into something truly original and special. All over his website you will see things that say powered by supporters like you. I signed up for his emails and text messages just to see what his plan was. His plan is easy… YOU THE PEOPLE have made this possible. With out you… WE would not be this far in this journey. Then Biden comes on… and he writes the same thing. The people made this happen. We speak on behalf of you the people, Obama contines to say.

Also Text messaging was brilliant. Kids might not check email but they ALWAYS have their phones. But what did they do. They ask for area codes or cell phone numbers. Again now they are able to analyize where supporters will be found. Oh and did I mention that Obama just wants you to donate 5 dollars. Not hundreds. Money that everyday people can afford.

There are two more things I would like to add that I think will be working on behalf of Obama the rest of the time.

1) His wife is a strong, passionate women and his kids are beautiful and adorable.

2) He isn’t fighting back with political garbage. He is winning by continuing to do less political garbage and rather, spending time with regular folks with regular jobs.

If he can continue to prove that he is for the people by the people, I think there is a pure marketing chance he may become the first president of his kind.
